Reynolds Beauty Therapy Sixth Form College

Our Sixth Form beauty course is a bespoke course that includes all areas of the industry. You will study NVQ level 2 in beauty therapy in year one and progress onto level 3 in either makeup or massage/facial electrical in year two. The course is 3 days per week and will include maths and English if required. As an addition you will gain a gel polish certificate in year one and a spray tan certificate in year two. Both courses are accredited by the Beauty Guild. Beauty therapy sixth form learners have a unique and invaluable chance to enhance their skills through hands-on experience at Reynolds Spa. Reynolds Training Academy provides a comprehensive learning environment but also extends an invaluable opportunity for learners to partake in practical work experience at Reynolds Fitness Spa. Learners have the additional prospect of securing employment at Reynolds Fitness Spa, providing a seamless transition from their academic pursuits to the professional realm.

Course Expectations and breakdown:

Learners are expected to be in college 2.5 days per week.

Year 1

VTCT Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy General (QCF) is a substantial vocational qualification for learners seeking a career as an employed and/or self-employed beauty therapist. This qualification is based on the beauty therapy National Occupational Standards (NOS) and is recognised by the UK’s leading professional bodies (The British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC) and the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT)) as being fit for purpose for preparing learners for a career as a junior beauty therapist. Year 2

VTCT Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy Massage is a substantial vocational qualification that will confirm your competence as a beauty massage therapist. This qualification forms part of an apprenticeship framework, however; some of the treatments covered within this qualification are subject to age restrictions in certain regions, where local council special treatment licensing applies. Employers are also mindful of the sensitive nature of the service, and due to this, the availability of apprenticeships in beauty massage may be limited in some cases. For this reason, the VTCT Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy Massage is also offered outside apprenticeships by education and training providers who can offer this course in a real salon environment and provide you with the opportunity to learn beauty massage skills, whilst working on real clients. It is important for you to have the opportunity to learn in a real working environment, particularly because this qualification leads to employment in such a client-centred and service orientated sector. This qualification is designed for learners aged 16 years or over and will support you to gain employment as a beauty massage therapist, as the units contained in this qualification cover all the skills and knowledge required for this role. Entry onto this qualification can be via previous attainment of a Level 2 qualification in beauty therapy and/or a successful skills test and interview. Modules of Study and learning outcomes:

VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Reflexology is a substantial vocational qualification that will prepare you for a career as a reflexologist. This qualification is designed for learners aged 16 years or over and will support you to gain employment as a reflexologist, as the units contained in this qualification cover all the skills and knowledge required for this role. Entry onto this qualification can be via previous attainment of a Level 2 qualification in complementary therapy and/or a successful skills test and interview. This is a vocational qualification and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a reflexologist including, mandatory units covering the following: knowledge and understanding of the principles and practice and business practice, anatomy, physiology and pathology for complementary therapies. You will also develop your understanding and practical skills to competently provide reflexology treatments. Throughout this qualification you will develop your knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology, health and safety, and client care. You will also develop a range of technical skills enabling you to use reflexology techniques for relaxation and to promote self-healing for your clients. You will also develop interpersonal skills that will assist you to communicate effectively with clients. Modules of Study and learning outcomes:

Work experience placements at the Reynolds spas (Bexley, Sittingbourne and the Retreat) during the two years on sixth form course. There will be placements whilst studying level 2 and then level 3. Once the learners are qualified therapists, there will be job opportunities at Reynolds Spas. This is an excellent opportunity to have ‘real’ on the job experience in a working spa. Beauty sixth form timetables include ‘industry weeks’, where they receive talks, presentations, tutorials and Q&A’s with specialists from all areas of the industry.

Eligibility

You must not be on a government funded course already. You must have been living in the UK or EU for 3 years or more. You must be the age of a secondary school year 12 or 13 to access this course.

Functional Skills

You may be required to undertake English and Maths Functional Skills level 1 and 2 or GCSE Maths and/or English Language if you do not already hold a GCSE at grade C or 4-9 and above.  As a government requirement, and an essential aspect of the level 2 Junior Beauty Therapist course, you will be required at the time of enrolment, to sit an initial assessment and diagnostic tests.  This allows Reynolds to gauge your level, acknowledge prior achievement and qualification(s) and identify any support that you may need.

Fees

All learners aged 16 to 18 on the 6th Form course will receive full government funding for the Level 2 course (Year 1) Learners aged 16 to 18 at the start of the Level 3 course will receive full government funding for the Level 3 course (Year 2) Learners aged 19+ at the start of the Level 3 course will need to apply for an Advanced Learning Loan to pay the fees  or pay the fees privately.
