May Awareness

MAY AWARENESS

2 to 8 May is Deaf Awareness Week, with ‘deaf inclusion’ this year’s theme, highlighting the impact of hearing loss on everyday life and increase visibility and inclusion of deaf people, young and old. Rose Ayling-Ellis has made a huge difference to our awareness, and there are over 50,000 deaf children and young people in the UK. Many will be sharing their stories on #MyDeafStory.

9 to 15 May is Mental Health Awareness Week, with ‘loneliness’ this year’s theme. Our connection to other people and community is fundamental to protecting our mental health. We must find better ways of tackling the loneliness epidemic. So, reach out, keep in touch; a call, conversation, meet, text, email, Facetime, videocall; a smile, an act of kindness all help us stay connected and reduce loneliness. Let’s all play our part, in the RTA community and beyond, and for 52 weeks a year, not only one.

Action for Happiness calendar is for Meaningful May – let’s find ways of being part of something bigger ie community to reduce loneliness
