Sixth Form College

Course Expectations and breakdown:

This qualification is delivered over 2 academic years.  Students are expected to be in college 2.5 days per week.

Year 1

Year 1 focuses on the BTEC Diploma in Sports Industry Skills (Including Exercise in a gym environment)

This qualification provides technical, practical and transferable work-related skills, and sector-specific knowledge. The development of these skills is key for learners to progress into full time employment. The Diploma will be comprised of the following:

Year 2

Year 2 Will focus on Active IQ Level 3 Diploma in gym Instructing and Personal Training. It includes the option to complete additional professional Career Development (PCD) certificated short courses.

The level 3 diploma in gym instructing and personal training course encompasses the level 2 gym instructing and level 3 personal training courses and is the qualification needed for all students to progress in the fitness industry working as a personal trainer. All students will carry out a blend of classroom based and practical learning. The qualification includes the following units:

The combined content covered in years 1 and 2 is designed to provide the essential practical skills and knowledge to prepare students for a career in the sports and fitness industry.  There are a multitude of career path and job role possibilities following the successful completion of the course including gym instructor, personal trainer and fitness instructor.

Work experience placements at the Reynolds spas (Bexley, Sittingbourne and the Retreat) during the two years on sixth form course. There will be placements whilst studying level 2 and then level 3. This is an excellent opportunity to have ‘real’ on the job experience in a working spa.
