The Reynolds Diploma in Musical Theatre is a three-year programme. Learners will work towards a variety of qualifications throughout the programme, along with having the option to study for additional qualifications that do not form part of the core programme.
The programme has been designed to provide learners with an equal split between singing, acting and various forms of dance, whilst also gaining additional valuable qualifications.
The following core programme is studied throughout the three years and linked into the qualifications were appropriate:
Acting
Including history of Musical Theatre, scene/song study, devised pieces, technique (sight reading, improvisation, play-text, heightened emotion, physical comedy)
Singing
- Technique, (including warm-up, breathing, dynamics)
- Repertoire (individual and group / harmony repertoire)
Musical Theatre
- Scene Study – concentrating on specific musicals, working through different eras, learning both the acting and singing parts
- Emphasis on making a natural transition from a song into acting and back again without seeming out of place
Ballet (including Repertoire)
- Technical ballet classes appropriate to the level of the learner; master classes; individual practice and preparation; group rehearsal and performance
- Focus on ballet terminology and delivery of ballet warm up class
Tap
Technical tap classes appropriate to the level of the learner; master classes; individual practice and preparation; group rehearsal and performance; show tap repertoire for advanced learners.
Jazz
Various styles including Matt Mattox, contemporary, street jazz, musical theatre, hip hop, urban, lyrical, commercial, Broadway, High Heels, Blues, cabaret; master classes; individual practice and preparation; group rehearsal and performance; show repertoire for advanced learners.
Audition Technique
Audition Technique looks at what students will be expected to do at an audition and how best to prepare themselves. The programme covers the format of an audition and the challenges that it presents. Students undertake practical exercises, which explore their personal presence and help them to select the most suitable performance pieces for use at audition.
Performance
Performances take place throughout the year and highlight the talents and skills of individual students as well as showcasing the strengths of the college.
Particular productions are chosen for their relevance to today’s industry and their appeal to prospective agents and employers. Every student is provided with their opportunity to shine.
