Musical Theatre Foundation degree The Foundation Degree in Musical Theatre is a unique performance-based degree which offers the opportunity for individual vocal tuition as well as group coaching in singing, dancing and acting. The aim of the course is to train high-calibre performers for the diverse demands of the music theatre profession. Students will be enabled to work in a range of collaborative artistic settings in conjunction with a wide range of leading industry professionals, often in professional settings. Principal Study vocal tuition is supported by Performance Projects, Principal Study Support (performance-based classes), and Complementary Studies.
Principal Study
All students receive individual principal study vocal tuition. In addition, they participate in a range of performance-based classes in singing, dancing and acting – many of which take place within the specialist studios at Reynolds Performing Arts in Bexley – and which are designed to give further support to students’ progress as musical theatre performers, and to develop the resilience, physical skills and stamina required by the profession. This breadth of tuition enables students to meet the needs of the contemporary profession as versatile and rounded musical theatre artists.
The course offers a wide variety of Performance Projects, reflecting the range of professional opportunities available to aspiring professional musicians pursuing portfolio careers. In addition to solo and ensemble performing opportunities, the programme includes education, community and outreach work and other diverse music making for a range of audiences. Public performance is an invaluable aspect of theatrical training, offering students a whole variety of experiences from auditioning, through rehearsals and on to the stresses and disciplines of a professionally devised production. In addition to Partnerships with external organisations offer opportunities for collaboration with artists from other cultures and disciplines. Students select from a constantly evolving range of projects offered by the College and, in negotiation with the course team, agree an individual performance programme for each year of the course, focussing on key skills and repertoire. This breadth of experience enables students to develop versatility – an essential attribute for active professional musicians today. The Performance Projects module represents a significant percentage of the assessed credits allocated each year. Complimentary Studies In Year 1, Complementary Studies consists of three modules:
